After more than two overs of waiting, Arjun Tendulkar eventually had his day, making his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. Presenting him with the cap was team captain, Rohit Sharma. The 23-year-old, who is the son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, had a decent start to his journey in cricketing history by keeping it tight at 0/17 from two overs. As stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav gave Arjun the ball right away, he thanked him for the trust by only conceding five runs in his first over - which also included an LBW shout that was very close. For the Tendulkar family, this was especially significant as Sachin watched from inside the MI change room and daughter Sara cheered from the stands.

After the match, Sachin took to social media to express his emotions on seeing Arjun take his first steps in top-flight cricket as his former India teammates Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Sourav Ganguly all congratulated the Master Blaster on the special occasion. Arjun himself recently shared his first-ever thoughts on his IPL debut, reflecting on the momentous occasion.

Getting the cap from MI's captain and the Indian team was an honor for me. It's always special to play for the team I have supported since 2008.

A great deal of attention was given to his father, Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary Tendulkar has been heavily involved with Arjun's training and has even referred him to Yograj Singh as a coach. As Sachin explained, he experienced a range of emotions while watching Arjun play, explaining why he chose to stay inside the dressing room and how it felt to watch the action unfold from the dugout.

It was certainly a novel experience for me, not having been to see him play before. I just wanted him to be able to go out and truly express himself, doing whatever he wished. So today, I stayed in the dressing room so as not to distract him from his goals by spotting me in the crowd when he glanced at the big screen. It's an indescribable feeling, 2008 was my first year following this team and 16 years later he is still playing for them - that's impressive!

The Sachin-Arjun pair is the first-ever father-son duo to play for the same team - in MI - in the IPL. Sachin played for MI between 2008 and 2013, winning the championship at the end of his career. During his career, Tendulkar scored 2334 runs at an average of 34.48, including 13 fifties and one century, and won the Orange Cap in 2010 for striking 618 runs as MI finished as runner-up.
