West Indies have named wk-batter Amir Jangoo and promising young talent Jewel Andrew in their ODI squads vs England

West Indies Name Unchanged Squad for Ireland, England ODIs; Jewel Andrew Returns The West Indies have announced a largely unchanged squad for their upcoming ODI series in Ireland and England, with only one change from the group that swept Bangladesh 3-0 in December. Shimron Hetmyer, currently playing in the IPL, is the only notable omission, while young wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew returns to the 15-man touring party. Shai Hope will continue to lead the side, with Brandon King and Evin Lewis expected to open the innings, followed by Keacy Carty at No. 3. The pace department is bolstered by the return of Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde, both of whom missed the Bangladesh series due to injury. All eyes will also be on Amir Jangoo, who scored a fluent 79-ball century on debut against Bangladesh in St Kitts. He’ll be looking to cement a place in the playing XI as the West Indies continue to build a balanced and competitive white-ball unit. The Caribbean side heads into the three-match ODI series against Ireland — starting in Dublin on May 21 — ranked ninth in the ICC ODI standings. With back-to-back series wins over Bangladesh and England to close out 2024, the West Indies are eyeing crucial ranking points in their push for automatic qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe. West Indies Name ODI Squad for Ireland and England; Jewel Andrew Returns, Rampaul Joins Staff The West Indies have named a largely unchanged squad for their upcoming six-match ODI tour of Ireland and England, with rising star Jewel Andrew returning and Shimron Hetmyer omitted as he continues his stint in the IPL. The 15-man group closely mirrors the one that swept Bangladesh 3-0 in December, reflecting the selectors' desire for continuity ahead of a critical World Cup qualification period. Shai Hope will continue to lead the side, with Brandon King and Evin Lewis expected to open the innings, and Keacy Carty slotting in at No. 3. Exciting young pacers Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde, both of whom missed the Bangladesh series due to injury, are fit and available once again. Wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo, fresh off a 79-ball century on debut, will look to seize his opportunity in the playing XI. “These matches form a critical component towards the 2027 World Cup, and there are signs of the team building consistency following the series sweep against Bangladesh and the win over England late last year,” said head coach Daren Sammy. “We expect the conditions to be challenging, but we are creating a culture and mindset which emphasise playing the brand of cricket that is taking us closer to some of our overall objectives.” As the West Indies sit ninth in the ICC ODI rankings, this tour offers vital ranking points and an opportunity to fine-tune combinations ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, to be held in South Africa and Zimbabwe. The team has also undergone changes in the backroom staff. Former West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul replaces James Franklin as the bowling coach, while Kevin O'Brien, the former Ireland allrounder, will join the coaching group specifically for the Ireland leg of the tour. The ODI series begins with three matches at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin, starting on May 21, before the team moves on to England for three more ODIs, beginning at Edgbaston on May 29. A three-match T20I series will follow, with the squad for those games yet to be announced.
