Tragedy Strikes Bengaluru: Multiple Deaths Reported During RCB Victory Celebrations

Bengaluru RCB Celebration Turns Tragic: 11 Dead in Stampede-like Situation A celebration event meant to honor IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) turned into a tragic incident on June 4 in Bengaluru, leading to 11 confirmed deaths due to overcrowding and a stampede-like situation around the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Thousands of fans gathered after announcements of a public felicitation by Karnataka Chief Minister and an open-top bus parade. However, last-minute confusion over arrangements—contradictory statements from RCB and Bengaluru Traffic Police—led to widespread chaos. Despite efforts by local police and last-minute coordination with event organizers, the lack of preparation and clarity triggered a crowd surge. Police resorted to mild lathi charge, and videos showed people scaling stadium walls. The situation worsened near Vidhana Soudha, where large crowds gathered early expecting to see the team. A sudden rain disrupted the planned open-bus parade, and RCB proceeded to the stadium in closed buses. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar issued an apology, while hospitals confirmed 11 deaths. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia called it a failure in planning, comparing it unfavorably with other major cricket events that managed huge crowds safely. RCB released a statement expressing anguish and condolences, saying they amended their plans as soon as they became aware of the situation, and urged fans to stay safe.
