T20 Blast - Naveen-ul-Haq stars in Leicestershire's win

NORTH GROUP Worcestershire vs Leicestershire Naveen-ul-Haq picked up a five-wicket haul to star in Leicestershire's 26-run victory against Worcestershire. Barring Scott Steel, there were useful contributions from the top six as Leicestershire posted 162/6. Rishi Patel top-scored for them with 37 off 25 while Arron Lilley struck a 20-ball 32. Ed Barnard picked up 2 for 17 from the three overs he bowled. Worcestershire maintained a positive rate in the chase, crossing 90 before the 11th over. But they also lost half their side by then, with Callum Parkinson and Naveen striking regularly. Barnard and Ben Cox tried to keep their side in the hunt with 27 and 25 respectively but Leicestershire kept making inroads and bowled out the opposition in the 19th over. Brief scores: Leicestershire 162/6 in 20 overs (Rishi Patel 37, Arron Lilley 32; Ed Barnard 2-17) beat Worcestershire 136 in 19 overs (Ed Barnard 27; Naveen-ul-Haq 5-11, Callum Parkinson 2-23) by 26 runs. Durham vs Northamptonshire Northamptonshire registered a four-wicket victory against Durham at the Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street . Graeme White bagged three wickets while skipper Josh Cobb picked up a couple as they restricted Durham to 154/8, with Graham Clark (44) being the lone batter to score more than 20. Chris Lynn powered the chase with a 47-ball 61, with five fours and two sixes, with the rest of the batting order coming up with useful contributions. Andrew Tye picked up three wickets but his efforts were in vain as Northamptonshire got over the line with three deliveries to spare. Brief scores: Durham 154/8 in 20 overs (Graham Clark 44; Graeme White 3-14, Josh Cobb 2-24) lost to Northamptonshire 158/6 in 19.3 overs (Chris Lynn 61, Saif Zaib 22; Andrew Tye 3-28) by 4 wickets. Warwickshire vs Nottinghamshire A game of eight-overs per side produced a lot of excitement at Edgbaston, with even two instances of tactical retiring out by Carlos Brathwaite and Samit Patel in the last over of each innings. In the end, Warwickshire held their nerve to prevail by one run to move to the second spot on the North Group table. Chasing 99 for victory, Nottinghamshire lost Joe Clarke off the first ball. But Alex Hales' 30 off 9, with one four and four sixes, along with Ben Duckett's 22 off 13, kept their side in the hunt. Nottinghamshire needed 15 off the final over and could only manage two off the first three deliveries as Craig Miles kept it tight. But Tom Moores hit the fourth ball for a six and then took a single, leaving Samit on strike with six needed off the last ball. A no ball kept the contest alive and it came down to three and Moores on strike while Samit retired out. But only a single came off the last ball as Warwickshire won a thriller. Earlier, Paul Stirling was also dismissed for a first-ball duck but Chris Benjamin led the attack with the bat with a 17-ball 36, scoring four fours and two sixes. Brathwaite retired out after scoring 17, while Alex Davies struck a four and a six off Calvin Harrison, who conceded 18 off the last over. Brief scores: Warwickshire 98/5 in 8 overs (Chris Benjamin 36; Samit Patel 2-12) beat Nottinghamshire 97/5 in 8 overs (Alex Hales 30; Jake Lintott 2-6) by 1 run. SOUTH GROUP Kent vs Middlesex Having lost five games in a row, Kent finally got off the mark in the T20 Blast with a comprehensive 55-run win against Middlesex. Joe Denly was the main architect of the victory, scoring a 58-ball 110, which included six sixes and nine fours, to power Kent to a commanding total of 192/8. Jordan Cox provided good support to Denly, scoring 45 off 34 in a 157-run second wicket stand. Kent were looking good for a 200-plus total but Martin Andersson and Chris Green bagged three wickets apiece to restrict them towards the end of the first innings. Middlesex, however, fared poorly in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Stephen Eskinazi's 30 off 24 was the highest individual score for Middlesex while Luke Hollman scored a 19-ball 29* batting at No. 7. But lack of contributions from the rest meant Middlesex ended up well short. Jack Leaning bagged three wickets while George Linde and Grant Stewart picked up two apiece. Brief scores: Kent 192/8 in 20 overs (Joe Denly 110, Jordan Cox 45; Chris Green 3-29, Martin Andersson 3-32) beat Middlesex 137/8 in 20 overs (Stephen Eskinazi 30, Luke Hollman 29*; Jack Leaning 3-30, George Linde 2-26) by 55 runs. Surrey vs Glamorgan Rain forced the teams to share points, with play being called off after only 1.3 overs were bowled in the second innings. Jamie Overton struck a 21-ball 48 while Sam Curran scored a sedate 31 off 30 to help Surrey to 160/9. Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Hogan picked up a couple of wickets. Glamorgan were 9/0 in the second over when the players were forced off the field, and did not return. Surrey, still unbeaten after five matches, top the South Group table. Brief scores: Surrey 160/9 in 20 overs Jamie Overton 48, Sam Curran 31; Marnus Labuschagne 2-27) vs Glamorgan 9/0 (David Lloyd 7*). No result.
