Senanayake granted bail over charges related to match-fixing

Sachithra Senanayake, the former Sri Lanka offspinner, has been granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's court, the police media division has confirmed. Senanayake had been arrested on September 6 on charges related to match-fixing. Bail was granted on two sureties of LKR 5,000,000 each, while the previously court-imposed travel ban is still in effect. He will appear before court again on December 12, 2023. Senananayake, 38, is asserted to have endeavored to persuade players to fix in the 2020 Lanka Head Association. Despite the fact that he was not himself a player in this competition, and is perceived to have been abroad at that point, Senanayake is claimed to have reached more than one player participating in the LPL. This data was then supposedly passed on to the competition's enemy of defilement officials. The capture was made under the Avoidance of Offenses Connecting with Sports Act, which was presented in 2019. Under this regulation, "any individual who requests, tempts, convinces, or educates any individual… to impact the outcome, progress, direct … of any game, commits the offense of debasement in sports". This is the main capture made under this demonstration. Senanayake had something of a celebrated vocation prior to being pulled up on his activity in 2014. He'd been a vital piece of Sri Lanka's victorious 2014 T20 World Cup crusade, and had likewise been purchased for USD $625,000 by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2013 IPL season. Despite the fact that he made a return in 2014 with a rebuilt bowling activity, his profession declined from there on. He played the remainder of his 49 ODIs in December 2015, and the remainder of his 24 T20Is in 2016. He additionally played one Test in 2013, yet took no wickets.
