Sanath Jayasuriya becomes full time head coach of Sri Lanka

Sanath Jayasuriya has been delegated lead trainer of Sri Lanka's men's group for the rest of the 2026 T20 World Cup. He had been their mentor since early July, however had been working in a break limit. Yet, having now dazzled in the job, Sri Lanka Cricket has given him the regular work. Under Jayasuriya throughout recent months, Sri Lanka won their first reciprocal ODI series against India in quite a while, crushed Britain away in a Test without precedent for 10 years, and all the more as of late whitewashed New Zealand 2-0 in home Tests to allow the group an external opportunity of meeting all requirements for the World Test Title last. "The Chief Advisory group of Sri Lanka Cricket went with this choice thinking about the group's great exhibitions in the new visits against India, Britain, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in control as the 'break lead trainer'," the board articulation said. This is Jayasuriya's initial significant introduction to training. He has said in different meetings that he sees his essential job as establishing a climate wherein players can work with opportunity. Players seem to have been open to his strategies, with a few giving gleaming surveys in broad daylight. Jayasuriya's past contributions with the group, which went before his two-year-boycott under the ICC's enemy of debasement code, had been as boss selector. He had stood firm on that footing in two separate stretches. His most memorable task as lead trainer will be the approaching restricted overs matches against West Indies, in Dambulla and Pallekele.
