Rohit, Kohli rested for T20Is & ODIs; Kl Rahul named as ODIs Caption & Suryakumar Continue to lead India in T20Is vs South Africa
Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the three-match T20I series against South Africa beginning from December 10 followed by three ODIs and two Tests, in Centurion (from December 26) and Cape Town (from January 3). KL Rahul will captain the ODI squad.
Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven't been picked in both the ODI and T20I squads with the board confirming that the duo had requested a break from the white-ball leg of the tour.
While the batting line-up mostly remains the same for the T20Is, the bowling attack will have a lot more experience with the return of Jadeja, Chahar, Kuldeep and Siraj, perhaps a hint towards how the team management and selectors are thinking for the T20 World Cup just more than six months away.
The selectors have made multiple changes to the ODI squad for the three-match series with the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav also rested. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Tilak Varma, and Sanju Samson have all made the cut. In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar have been included with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami rested.
