Penfold has been ruled out of the Australia-Sri Lanka series.

Molly Penfold, a seamer from New Zealand, has been diagnosed with a knee injury and will not be able to play in the series against Sri Lanka or Australia. Penfold, 23, was playing in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield earlier this month when she injured her left knee and tore the meniscus. She had surgery and will need up to 12 weeks to recover. The head coach of New Zealand, Ben Sawyer, stated, "We're all gutted for Molly." "It's a really bad way to end her summer, especially after her strong performances in the Rose Bowl series. Her recovery times should allow her to fit into our winter training schedule, which is a positive. In 14 ODIs and 10 T20Is, Penfold has taken seven wickets. She scored a career-high 4 for 42 in the second match of the ODI series against Australia in December of last year at the Basin Reserve. As she continues her absence from the game, New Zealand will also be without Sophie Devine for the Sri Lanka matches. Her participation against Australia has yet to be confirmed. Next month, New Zealand will play three ODIs and three T20Is against Sri Lanka, then three T20Is against Australia. Amelia Kerr will remain in India, while Chamari Athapaththu will leave the WPL early to take part in the tour.
