Naveed Nawaz joins Silverwood's support staff at Sri Lanka

Previous Sri Lanka cricketer Naveed Nawaz has been designated as Assistant Coach of the senior men's group on a two-year agreement, the nation's cricketing board reported on Sunday (April 17). Nawaz, 48, will assume control over instructing obligations under recently designated lead trainer Chris Silverwood whose first task is a two-Test visit through Bangladesh one month from now. Nawaz, who played one Test and three ODIs for Sri Lanka somewhere in the range of 1998 and 2002, accompanies a dependable training record having directed the Bangladesh Under-19 group to World Cup brilliance in 2020. In their first aggressive task in Bangladesh, Silverwood and Nawaz will be helped by Sri Lanka legend, Chaminda Vaas, who will join as the group's quick bowling trainer. Puyal Wijetunge and Manoj Abeywickrama will act as the twist bowling and handling mentors separately on the visit. The two-Test series, some portion of the ICC Test Championship 2021-23 cycle, will start in Chattogram on May 15. The subsequent Test will be played in Dhaka from May 23.
