A stand at the Wankhede will be devoted to Rohit Sharma by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The decision was taken during the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday (April 15). Stands will also be dedicated to former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former MCA president Sharad Pawar. "Another important resolution that was approved at the AGM was to name the stands at Wankhede Stadium, which was a proposal that was originally made by Mr. Milind Narvekar and seconded by Mr. Jitendra Awhad" an MCA release said. According to the release Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will be the Rohit Sharma Stand. The Grand Stand Level 3 will henceforth be known as the Sharad Pawar Stand, while Level 4 will be renamed the Ajit Wadekar Stand. In a heartfelt tribute, the MCA also announced that the match-day office at the MCA Pavilion will now be called the MCA Office Lounge, in memory of Amol Kale - the former president of the association who passed away while in office. "The MCA remains committed to preserving the legacy of stalwarts who have made invaluable contributions to the sport while continuing its mission of cricketing excellence," the MCA said. "The decision to increase the corpus for affiliated clubs to Rs. 75 crores with a forward-looking plan to increase it to Rs. 100 crores in the coming years was a major highlight of the meeting. The release added, "This significant move aims to strengthen grassroots infrastructure and support the city's long-term growth of cricket." "Our determination to build an even stronger future and our deep respect for the Mumbai cricket pillars are reflected in today's decisions. Ajinkya Naik, president of the MCA, stated, "These stands and this lounge will forever echo the legacy of those who built Mumbai's cricketing spirit, brick by brick, run by run."
