Lloyd Tennant appointed Ireland Women head coach

Cricket Ireland has appointed Lloyd Tennant as the new head coach of the Ireland Women's cricket team, effective from June 1, 2025. He succeeds Ed Joyce, who stepped down after nearly six years in the role following Ireland's unsuccessful bid to qualify for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. Tennant, 57, is an ECB Level 4 qualified coach with over 30 years of experience in developing cricketers across various levels. He previously served as head coach of Central Sparks, a domestic women's team in England, for four years. His extensive coaching background includes roles with Leicestershire CCC, the ECB Male Under-19 programme, and the ECB Female Academy and 'A' Team. Expressing his enthusiasm, Tennant stated, "I'm very excited about this new role—it's such a great time to be involved in women's cricket, given its rapid development around the world. This Ireland Women's squad has moved forward enormously under the guidance of Ed Joyce, and I would like to continue his great work, supporting this squad as it continues to grow." Cricket Ireland’s Director of High Performance, Graeme West, highlighted Tennant's vast experience and educational capacity as key factors in his appointment, emphasizing his potential to advance both players and staff. Tennant's first assignment will be leading Ireland in a home white-ball series against Zimbabwe, comprising three T20Is and two ODIs, starting July 20.
