IPL 2025: SACA, CA express concerns over player safety

Following the suspension of IPL 2025 due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, both the South African Cricketers' Association and Cricket Australia have voiced their apprehensions regarding the safety of their players involved in the tournament. The league came to a sudden halt after the PBKS vs DC game was abandoned midway through the first innings, prompting the BCCI to pause all fixtures for a week. Since then, BCCI’s focus has been on ensuring the safe evacuation of players and staff from Dharamsala, particularly those who were part of the disrupted match. The unfolding political situation has left many international players concerned about their security. Andrew Breetzke, CEO of the South African Cricketers' Association, stressed the importance of safety: “Player welfare is non-negotiable. We're maintaining constant contact with our players at the IPL and providing real-time updates on the security scenario. Support is available to them whenever needed.” Cricket Australia, in a similar vein, issued a statement on Friday: “We are actively monitoring the evolving conditions in both India and Pakistan. We’re in regular communication with our players and support staff, and are coordinating with the Australian Government, BCCI, PCB, and local authorities for the latest advisories.” Just before the geopolitical tensions intensified, Cricket West Indies also confirmed ongoing discussions with both the BCCI and PCB to stay informed about the developments.
