England-India Test series renamed as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson will have their names etched on prestigious silverware as ECB and BCCI have decided to name the Test series between England and India the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. It has learned that both Tendulkar and Anderson will unveil the trophy at Lord's during the World Test Championship (WTC) final which gets underway from June 11. The new WTC cycle will begin on June 20 at Headingley (Leeds) with a five-match series between India and England. Tendulkar retired in 2013 after playing 200 Tests, while Anderson retired in July after playing 188 Tests. The series that is currently played in England is known as the Pataudi Trophy, in honor of former India captains Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (his son), while the series that is played in India is known as the Anthony de Mello Trophy, in honor of one of the founding members of the BCCI who was also the inaugural secretary and president of the board from 1946-1947 to 1950-1951. The trend comes from the name of the Crowe-Thorpe trophy, which will be given to the team that wins the Test series between England and New Zealand in November 2024. Similarly, India and Australia compete for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Tests.
