Drug use in Rabada case was cocaine

The recreational drug involved in Kagiso Rabada's case was confirmed to be cocaine. The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) announced on June 3, 2025, that Rabada tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following a urine sample collected on January 21 during the SA20 tournament . Rabada's legal team demonstrated that the cocaine use occurred out of competition, as the concentration of benzoylecgonine was below 1,000 nanograms per millilitre, indicating prior use rather than on the day of testing . Consequently, he received a one-month suspension, which he served from April 1 to May 1, 2025. During this period, Rabada also completed a substance abuse education program. He did not appeal the ban and returned to play for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL before joining South Africa's squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s . Rabada expressed regret over his actions, acknowledging the disappointment caused to his supporters and teammates. However, he emphasized his desire to move forward, stating, "I won't be Mr-I-Apologise too much," reflecting his focus on personal growth and returning to cricket .
