Dewald Brevis powers Hampshire to huge win

South African batting prodigy Dewald Brevis, often dubbed "Baby AB" for his resemblance to AB de Villiers, made a sensational debut for Hampshire Hawks in the 2025 Vitality T20 Blast, leading his team to a commanding 106-run victory over Essex at the Utilita Bowl on May 30. Brevis' Explosive Debut Batting at number three, Brevis showcased his aggressive style by smashing a six off the very first ball he faced. He reached his half-century in just 21 balls and concluded his innings with a blistering 68 runs off 32 deliveries, including six sixes and four fours. His partnership with Toby Albert, who scored 54 off 34 balls, added 80 runs in just 6.5 overs, propelling Hampshire to their highest-ever T20 total at the venue—230/7 in 20 overs. Captain James Vince also contributed significantly with a rapid 62 off 31 balls. The crowd of 8,139, the largest for an opening day at the venue since 2017, witnessed a batting masterclass. Dominant Bowling Seals the Win In response, Essex struggled against Hampshire's bowling attack. Liam Dawson led the charge with impressive figures of 4 for 26, while Scott Currie supported with 3 for 20. Despite a valiant 51 from Michael Pepper, Essex was bowled out for 124 in 16.2 overs, handing Hampshire a resounding 106-run victory. Brevis' Rising Stardom Brevis' debut performance continues his remarkable form across T20 leagues. Earlier in 2025, he was a standout player for MI Cape Town in the SA20, finishing as the sixth-highest run-scorer with 291 runs and leading the tournament with 25 sixes. His consistency and explosive batting have made him one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
