DC, led by Lanning, Shafali, and Jonassen, topped the WPL table.

By defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by nine wickets in Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals (DC) improved their record for chasing teams in the WPL 2025 to 12-1. DC replaced MI at the top of the points table as a result of the win, which came with 5.3 more innings remaining. They've scored eight points in six games, while MI has scored six from five. MI looked good when they were sent in, but when their openers fell, Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani ran through the middle order and took three wickets each. The top five MI batters all reached double digits, but none reached 22. Amanjot Kaur ended the game with an unbeaten 17 off ten balls, putting the team at 123 for 9. Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning added 85 for the first wicket in 9.5 overs as DC chased a score well below par. Lanning went on, but Shafali fell for 43 off of 28. She scored her second fifty of the season off 40 balls and remained unbeaten on 60 balls off 49. DC put a stop to MI's rapid start. MI got off to an early start. Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia both scored fours in the first game against Marizanne Kapp. Matthews greeted Jonassen with two fours off her first two balls when she came to bowl the fourth over. After that, however, DC slowed down the scoring rate. Shikha Pandey caught Bhatia behind in the sixth over while bowling around the wicket for 11. At a strike rate of 84.44, Bhatia has scored 38 runs in five innings for WPL 2025. Matthews misjudged Annabel Sutherland to Shafali Verma at mid-off shortly after. For 1, DC could have also had Harmanpreet Kaur. She edged Titas Sadhu in the eighth over, but the ball went between the wicketkeeper and slip. MI scored 49 for 2 after nine overs. Mani and Jonassen deliver decisive blows. Jonassen won the Player of the Match award for her batting in DC's previous match. She demonstrated tonight that bowling is still her preferred sport. Harmanpreet was looking to up the ante after getting her eye in. She muscled Sadhu over wide long-on in the tenth over for a 79-meter six. She demonstrated her touch game after three balls. She tapped the length ball to the left of short fine leg for four as she moved toward the off side. On 22, however, Jonassen ended her innings by trapping her lbw with an arm ball. Nat Sciver-Brunt, MI's leading run-scorer this season, remained in the middle. She had three fifties in four innings prior to this match. Jonassen flew ahead of her and slowed the pace for her. Sciver-Brunt chipped it back to the bowler after starting the shot early. Jonassen bowled G Kamalini with another flighted delivery to finish with figures of 3 for 25. In the interval, Mani threw out Amelia Kerr and S Sajana in just three balls. Kerr's wicket was equally Mani's and Sutherland's. Kerr had been persuaded by Mani to top-edge a pull. To complete the catch, Sutherland, who was at long-on, ran in diagonally to her right and dived full length, just inches above the ground. Sanskriti Gupta also lost to Mani, finding Jemimah Rodrigues deep in the middle of the wicket. Shafali makes a hasty getaway. MI set attacking fields because they were aware that they needed early wickets. In the first over of the chase, Lanning, who hasn't been at her best this season, took advantage and hit two fours off Shabnim Ismail. Additionally, MI's strategy of bowling short to Shafali failed. Five wides were given up by Sciver-Brunt, who Shafali dispatched to the boundary when she got it right. She hit Sciver-Brunt for two fours and a six in four balls in the fourth over. Lanning punished Matthews with the same punishment in the following over after hitting consecutive fours off Ismail at the other end. DC had reduced the required rate to 4.78 and raced to 57 without losing during the powerplay. DC did not slow down even after the restrictions on the field were removed. Shafali hit Kerr in the ground for two sixes in the ninth over. Shafali was eventually caught at deep midwicket by Amanjot, who eventually broke the stand. However, the contest had ended by that point. Only 28 balls were used by Lanning and Rodrigues to eliminate the remaining 39 runs.
