Change of BCB president is totally performance-based - Bangladesh's sports advisor

The recent leadership change at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), according to Bangladesh's sports advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, was entirely based on performance. Asif insisted that the decision to appoint former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul as president Faruque Ahmed's replacement was made with the intention of halting the decline of cricket. "The cricket board had certain expectations of us. Sadly, development did not live up to those expectations. Cricket's condition is getting worse by the day. At a media event on Sunday (May 31) during the national handball championship, Asif stated, "I cannot let cricket sink under my watch." The National Sports Council, also known as the NSC, has the authority to appoint or remove directors. He remained in his position as president. We only withdrew his directorship application. As a direct consequence of this, Aminul Bhai was elected in accordance with the BCB constitution," he elaborated. The advisor revealed that reports of mismanagement during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) that allegedly involved Faruque Ahmed raised serious concerns. During the tournament, a fact-finding committee discovered a number of irregularities, including administrative errors that caused financial strain and the government's intervention to pay for unpaid expenses like player salaries. "We did not find any evidence of corruption; however, the BPL report made it abundantly clear that there were significant administrative failures. Asif stated, "The leadership's performance must be evaluated in these circumstances." Eight of the nine BCB directors nominated by the NSC filed a motion of no confidence in Faruque Ahmed, prompting the leadership change. "To function, you need a team, just like in cricket. There was no team at BCB. He was uncomfortable working with directors. This has nothing to do with removing an embarrassment. It's all about how you do. Administrators must also be evaluated, just like a player who consistently fails gets dropped," he said, adding that Faruque was given the opportunity to explain but was unable to provide a convincing defense. Asif insisted that the ICC had been informed of the leadership change and that the global governing body had welcomed it. He also stated that Aminul's appointment might not be permanent, and that the next BCB election might be in October. "We didn't give Aminul Bhai a sentence. Despite giving up a salaried ICC position for an honorary position, he agreed to serve out of commitment to cricket."
