Asalanka named SL captain for first two T20Is against Bangladesh in Hasaranga's absence

Charith Asalanka will stand in as Sri Lanka captain in place of the suspended Wanindu Hasaranga for the first two of the three T20Is against Bangladesh starting on March 4 in Sylhet. Sri Lanka have also brought in opening batter Avishka Fernando in place of Pathum Nissanka, who is still recovering from an injury he sustained during the series against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka have likewise reviewed legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who last played a T20I in February 2022. Hasaranga, who was suspended for two T20I coordinates by the ICC following his disagreement with umpire Lyndon Hannibal in the third T20I against Afghanistan on February 21, will be returning as chief for the third T20I on Walk 9. Asalanka, who is the assigned bad habit chief for the series, will be driving Sri Lanka interestingly. Fernando gets into the crew generally on the rear of good ODI structure. In the series against Afghanistan, he'd hit 91 off 66 and a run-a-ball 88. He'd last played a T20I in January last year, and has been a conflicting presence in Sri Lanka's crew inferable from a blend of wellness and structure. Sri Lanka's new arrangement of selectors seem to need to reintegrate him into the top groups, notwithstanding. Legspinner Vandersay, in the mean time, last played at T20I quite a while back. He is there basically as cover for Hasaranga in the matches in which Hasaranga is suspended. Akila Dananjaya and Maheesh Theekshana are the other cutting edge spinners in the crew. The main T20I is booked for Walk 4. The entire series is set to be played in Sylhet. Sri Lanka T20I squad: Wanindu Hasaranga (capt), Charith Asalanka, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Janith Perera, Dilshan Madushanka, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana, Akila Dananjaya, Binura Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay
