Archer ruled out of West Indies ODIs due to thumb injury

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies due to a right thumb injury. The injury occurred on May 4 during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Initially considered minor, further assessments revealed ligament damage, leading to his withdrawal from the series. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Archer will be reassessed over the next fortnight to determine his return timeline. Lancashire's left-arm seamer Luke Wood has been named as his replacement for the three-match series, which begins on May 29 at Edgbaston. Archer's injury also casts doubt on his participation in the upcoming England Lions fixture against India A in early June, which was intended as a stepping stone for his return to red-ball cricket. His last Test appearance was in February 2021, and this setback may delay his anticipated comeback in the Test series against India later this summer. England's management remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of Archer's long-term fitness.
