Afy Fletcher returns for South Africa tour
Afy Fletcher has been named in West Indies Women's 18-part crew for the One-Day International series against South Africa. While she gets back from maternity leave, uncapped Kaysia Schultz, a left-arm customary bowler, Mandy Mangru, a right-given player, and Jannillea Glasgow, a right-arm medium pacer have procured lady call-ups. The triplet was a piece of WI Women A group that played Pakistan's A group a year ago.
"The South Africa series comes at an advantageous time as the group plans for the forthcoming World Cup," Ann Browne-John, CWI's Lead Selector for Women's cricket, said on Friday (January 14). "The crew has been getting ready and working during the previous year, even with the impediments brought about by the pandemic and ideally they can assemble everything. The arrival of the accomplished Afy Fletcher carries changed up the bowling especially with the shortfall of Qiana Joseph who has been precluded because of injury.
"In our drive to proceed with the extension of our player pool, the board has included three youthful, uncapped players. They are Kaysia Schultz, Mandy Mangru just as teen Jannillea Glasgow. Openness to global cricket right now will definitely give them the experience and match time expected to create and develop their singular abilities . The board accepts that this mix of youth and experience will function admirably as we proceed with our arrangements for the World Cup," she added.
The crew is expected to show up in South Africa on January 16, in front of the series that will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from January 25 to February 7. They will have an instructional course in front of the warm-up game.
