IPL Franchises Offer 50 Crore to Convince 6 Top England Cricketers to Quit International Cricket

There have been reports that top IPL franchise owners are trying to convince six premier England players to leave international cricket and sign up for handsome annual contracts ranging up to 5 million pounds to play T20 leagues all year round, according to the Times London.

Almost all IPL franchises have branched out to other leagues, including CPL (West Indies), SA T20 (South Africa), Global T20 League (UAE), and the upcoming Major League T20.

In the report, however, it is not stated which franchise has approached and who is involved in the conversation.

Several IPL franchises may invest in the ambitious Saudi T20 league.

IPL franchise owners have approached at least six English players, including some international stars, and asked whether, in principle, they would accept a deal that would make an Indian team their main employer, rather than the ECB or an English county, as quoted in 'The Times' report.

Players' unions around the world have been discussing the potential implications of 12-month franchise contracts. That would be a significant step toward the football model in which elite players are primarily contracted to their teams and released for international duty, rather than vice versa.

A source told The Times that contract offers could come by the end of the year.

T20 cricket is here to stay, and T10 cricket is also catching the public's attention.

In spite of the fact that the ICC has always considered capping the number of leagues a contracted player can play in each year, it is unlikely a lot of young players will either retire from international cricket or give up on central contracts to become free agents. In such a scenario, the only obstacle would be the 'NOC' from the cricket board of the respective country.

The probability of such a model being adopted has increased in recent years as some IPL franchise owners have invested in several T20 tournaments in the UAE, South Africa, the Caribbean and now the United States with the new Major League Cricket venture that begins in July," the newspaper reported.

According to the paper, a similar discussion took place with star Australian T20 specialists as well.

"We have already discussed full-time contracts with a number of high-profile Australian players, but this has now been extended to English players as well. More than five times the value of the highest England central contracts, these contracts may be worth GBP 2 million or even GBP 5 million."

Furthermore, the paper discussed the possibility of having partial contracts with both the ECB and IPL franchises, especially those that play white-ball cricket.

"Reduced IPL deals - covering at least three rounds - would also be offered. The sheer amount of money on offer makes it a risk in the future for England's Test stars to walk away from their central contracts in favor of franchise contracts.

Players are more likely to negotiate bespoke deals according to their circumstances, which could result in them being part-contracted to their county or the ECB, and part-contracted to a franchise."
