Their preparations for the T20
World Cup starting smoothly, India will look to finalize their batting line-up
for the tournament when they take on Australia in their second and final
warm-up match in Dubai on Wednesday (October 20). India will take on Pakistan
in their main event lung-opener on Sunday (24 October). Apart from being a
swan-song for head coach Ravi Shastri, the tournament will be Virat Kohli's
last as captain in the format.
As Kohli pointed out ahead of the warm-up match against England on Monday, India's top three are already batting with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma and the captain coming in at crucial numbers. 3 position. Young Ishan Kishan, who scored 70 runs before retiring in a seven-wicket win over England, has also staked a claim for a place in the playing XI.
Rishabh Pant (29 not out) was
promoted ahead of Surya Kumar Yadav and it remains to be seen where the latter
bats on Wednesday. Rohit did not bat against England and came on Wednesday, the
right-handed batsman is expected to go against Australia.
However, the talking point
remains the all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who did not look comfortable in his
brief stay against England. With Pandya, not bowling, it remains to be seen
whether the Indian think-tank will play him purely as a batsman.
Without his bowling, India would
also miss out on a sixth bowling option if one of the five-strong attacks has a
day on the field. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took a wicket against England on Monday but
Jasprit Bumrah was at his best.
Mohammed Shami took three wickets
but went on to score while Rahul Chahar was challenged by the English batsmen.
Since the 2016 T20 World Cup, India has played 72 T20 matches and won 45.
Australia also started their
preparatory win by beating New Zealand by three wickets with the help of two
fours in the last over from Josh Inglis in the warm-up match played in Abu
Dhabi.
His first practice for Australia
had mixed news as David Warner continued his dreadful run after being dismissed
for a first-ball duck. Adam Zampa (2/17) and Kane Richardson (3/24) impressed
with the ball, but a middle-order collapse meant Australia had to face Ashton
Agar (23 off 18 balls), Mitchell Starc (13 not out on 9) as a late cameo was
required. ) and Inglis (2 not out) won.
