Virat Kohli is ready to make a mark in the longest format of cricket. The Indian ace is determined to break records against Australia in the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship. He will be looking to put his underwhelming performance in Bangladesh behind him as he makes his way for the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Nagpur on Thursday. The match will be an exciting one as it pits him against Steve Smith's star-studded side.

A former Indian skipper, Kohli, is only 64 runs away from completing 25,000 runs in international cricket as he continues to run the game. The former Indian skipper can become the second Indian to accomplish this feat in international cricket. Kohli will also become the fifth Indian batter to score 4,000 Test runs at home. Kohli has scored 3,847 runs in 46 matches at home.

Kohli's impressive feats against Australia have him ranked sixth among the highest Indian run-scorers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with 1,682 runs. He comes after Sachin Tendulkar (3,262), VVS Laxman (2,434 runs), Rahul Dravid (2,143 runs), Virender Sehwag (1,738 runs), and Cheteshwar Pujara, who is nearing a milestone of 2,000 runs against the Aussies. If successful, Pujara would be the fourth Indian to achieve this feat in red-ball cricket.

Pujara is one of the reliable Indian performers across home matches against Australia, with an impressive tally of 900 runs in 16 innings. This places him third on the list of top-scoring Indian batters. Smith, whose presence has been a hurdle for Kohli, stands just six away from becoming the fastest batsman to score 50 Test centuries. Moreover, with an incredible average of 60.89, he is also well on his way to clocking 9,000 Test runs; a feat he can accomplish much faster than anyone else in cricketing history. So far, 8,647 runs have come from 92 matches for Australia.
