Sources close to the ECB and Adani Group have confirmed that talks between the parties are at an advanced stage. While ECB officials declined to comment, Adani Group officials confirmed the deal could be signed in about a week. As reported earlier, the ECB was in talks with some of the IPL's parties including Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings for the sixth team. He was also in talks with the Lancashire County Cricket Club in England as well as the Sydney Sixers team in the Big Bash League.

Interestingly, three owners of the new league were interested in an IPL franchise, and the other three are the original IPL owners. Apart from Adani Group, which placed the third-highest bid (after RPSG and CVC) for the Ahmedabad franchise at Rs 5100 crore, Capri Global had bid for Rs 4202 crore and Lancer Capital's bid was at Rs 4128.65. As per the initial plan, the league was to be held in January-February but the organizers could not take it back due to the IPL auction and other commitments of the stakeholders. Currently, the ECB is exploring a window in June-July but questions remain over the availability of players.

Since the UAE does not have many local players, the league will largely rely on foreign players. Over the summer many may likely be busy with international FTP commitments. Also, with day matches being canceled due to the heat in June-July, the league will be played only on nights, which would mean a bigger window.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Board has already sold the media rights of the league to Zee for 10 years for USD 120 million.
