IPL 2021: Royal Challengers Bangalore look to inch closer to play-offs berth against Punjab Kings
Royal
Challengers Bangalore will look to move closer to a place in the playoffs when
they take on Punjab Kings in an Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.
Eyeing
their maiden IPL title win, RCB are currently on the third spot with 14 points
from seven wins and four losses.
Another
two points from a win would almost assure them a place in the place-offs, but
that would require RCB to overtake Punjab Kings, coming off a morale-boosting
win against Kolkata Knight Riders.

With
their five-wicket win over KKR, Punjab Kings also kept their chances of making
the playoffs alive even though they are fifth on 12 points after five wins and
seven losses.
Against
an ambitious RCB outfit, Punjab Kings will have to finish their job at the
Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Even though he didn't score big, Virat Kohli looked good when he was in the middle in his team's win over Rajasthan Royals, as did the captain's young opening partner Devdutt Padikkal.
The
duo played some cracking shots before in-form star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell
finished the job with a second consecutive half-century.
If
the situation calls for it, as in his last outing, Maxwell can again look to
Srikar India to build a solid partnership in the middle overs.
Batting
down this season, AB de Villiers provided RCB the kind of cushion that other
teams lacked, and Punjab Kings are well aware of this fact.
The
bowling will be commanded by Mohammad Siraj, Harshal Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed and
Yuzvendra Chahal, who have surpassed their previous struggles this season with
some very impressive spells, adding to the strength of RCB.
Punjab
Kings, on the other hand, will again rely on the dependable opening pair of
skipper KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal to get them off to a good start.
He
was among the run-scorers against KKR and would like to repeat against RCB.
The
biggest plus in the RCB game for Punjab Kings is his death bowling which paved
the way for their victory in the previous match.
Two decisive overs from Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh at the time of death helped set up Punjab's win against KKR, and the team would expect similar outings from both against RCB.
When: RCB vs PBKS, October 3, 2021,
15.30 IST
Where: Sharjah Cricket Stadium
What to expect: Another low scorer on the
relayed wicket of Sharjah, though a heavy roller trying to get some life off
the pitch on overtime duty. Here the average first innings score in four
matches is 135. The captain would like to bat first after winning the toss,
keeping the opponent in heat on the ground and then gradually applying pressure
to the scoreboard on the deteriorating surface.
